Palatine Meet of Champions recap

Juniors Evelyn Hett and Hastings BaCote and sophomores Selma Taylor and Lena Almer each established personal records at Palatine’s Meet of Champions on Saturday.

Hett placed fifth in 17:26.7, the overall best time in team history, as Jones placed 23rd out of 30 teams in the highly competitive varsity field.

Taylor was Jones’ next runner to finish with a time of 20:01.1, followed by Almer in 20:04.8 and BaCote in 20:09.6. Junior Eva Kay Papadopoulos rounded out Jones’ top five with a time of 20:43.6.

In the junior varsity race, PRs also were set by sophomore Anna Korfmacher (21:21.3), junior Elizabeth Quansah (22:07.8), senior Rawan El-Bawab (22:51.9), senior Allegra Giussani (23:13.7), senior Isabel Gonzalez (24:24.6), senior Margot Walsh (24:42.4), senior Camilla Smith-Donald (25:23.4), junior Maddie Lee (25:28.4) and senior Sara Kaleel (26:51.3).

Freshman Madeline Ogilvie was Jones’ top finisher in the freshman/sophomore race, which was 2.5 miles. 

And welcome back, Ally Flomenhoft, who ran in her first race since 2019!
