The 2021 cross country season officially crossed the start line at Lake Park’s Harvey Braus Invitational on Sept. 11!

Junior Evelyn Hett ran a personal-best time of 17:35.1, finishing seventh overall, as Jones got the season started by placing 10th out of 21 teams in the varsity race. 

Making her Jones debut, sophomore Lena Almer was third on the team with a time of 20:21.2. She finished right behind classmate Selma Taylor, who posted a personal best with a time of 20:20.6. 

Juniors Kat Menjivar (20:41.4) and Hastings BaCote (21:17.0) also scored as Jones totaled 302 points in its first meet of the season. 

York won with 35 points. City rival Lincoln Park was 17th with 506 points.

Jones placed 10th in the junior varsity race as well. Sophomore Anna Korfmacher was the team’s top finisher with a personal-best time of 22:32.0. 

Also setting personal bests in the JV race were senior Yoselyn Waterhouse (23:16.1), senior Allegra Giussani (23:53.8), sophomore Samantha Dombar (24:28.0), sophomore Sierra Philbin (24:35.3), senior Camilla Smith-Donald (25:36.4), and junior Maddie Lee (26:43.0).

And welcome to freshmen Amelie Lynde, Madeline Ogilvie, Quintana Weisgerber, Karina Paxton Filoteo, Luisa Goreman, Charlotte Mandujano, Isabella Guzman, Naomi Glanton, and Henna Im, who each finished her first high school race.
